Committed to caring for our Aboriginal community
The Northern Rivers Aboriginal Aged Respite Service under the governance of St Andrews Village Ballina is funded by the Department of Health under the Commonwealth Home Support Programme.
The Respite Service employs qualified and experienced staff including a Respite Manager, Support Workers and a Bus Driver.
The weekly service provides a range of programs and activities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and over that do not have an individual funded package. Morning tea, lunch and bus transport is provided.
Programs and activities provided include Day Centre Based Group Activities, Group Day Community Outings and Overnight Respite Activities. These include culture celebrations, arts, crafts, cooking, sewing, visits to other towns, also quest speakers provide information and workshops
These programs and activities are provided under a Wellness and Enablement approach which builds on the Aboriginal aged person’s strengths and has a focus on support to develop and maintain independence, choice, kinship, social and community connections quality of life and provide an opportunity for their cares to have a break from their caring roles.
