Volunteers at St Andrew’s village are welcomed by our staff as an important contribution to the health and well-being of our residents.
Volunteering in aged care is not just about personal care. Roles are quite varied across different areas of our business including gardening, administration, social support, activities, music, looking after our resident birds or driving the social bus.

It’s a great way to develop new skills, meet new friends or set yourself on a new career pathway.

The Organisation

St Andrews Village, Ballina is a leading not-for-profit provider of residential aged care with a rich local history over 30 years. Located in the beautiful Northern Rivers region of NSW, 20 minutes’ drive from Byron Bay and an hour’s drive from Queensland’s Gold Coast.
We take a holistic approach to the provision of our services. This includes recognising and respecting each resident’s strengths and empowering them to be independent while acknowledging their unique identity, culture and diversity.

The Position

Reporting directly to the Care Managers, you will be based at our Ballina Residential Care Facility, working 3 to 5 days per week.
The Wards Assistant will assist with the non-direct care of residents and completion of a variety of general tasks throughout the facility. The Wards Assistant is required to communicate regularly with all members of a multidisciplinary clinical team as well as the Services teams. The Wards Assistant must comply with reasonable instruction, policies and procedures relating to work health safety and wellbeing.
The Wards Assistant position will be required to meet the required physical and psychological demands of the position as outlined in the Position Description.  
You will be required to show proof of your COVID-19 vaccination status prior to securing this role.
The ideal candidate for this role would be an experienced, motivated and enthusiastic person with a passion for the provision of high-quality services to aged care consumers.

Requirements

  • The ideal applicant will have the following skills and experiences:
  • First aid Certificate.
  • Required Work as a ward assistant is available without formal qualifications.
  • Desirable qualification Certificate II in health Support Services Supervision.
  • Ability to be adaptable in undertaking changed roles within a shift.
  • Demonstrate respect and compassion toward elderly residents.
  • Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Resilience and capacity to undertake physically demanding activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to Work Health and Safety issues in particular basic manual handling techniques involved in lifting and transferring consumers as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally with members of the public and staff with a courteous and strong responsive customer focused service and an appreciation of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team setting and commitment to harmonious work relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand essential documentation including safe work practices, manual handling and infection control procedures.
  • Ability to prioritise in a demanding work environment.
  • Demonstrated high degree of reliability and punctuality.
  • Ability to work shift work, and successful experience in a team environment and the ability to work unsupervised with the capacity to work under supervision and/or independently.
  • Must be able to fulfil the physical requirements of the position.
  • Current Police Check (obtained by St Andrews).
  • Current Covid-19 Vaccinations.
  • Current Influenza Vaccination.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT WORKERS

The Position

We are looking for passionate Care Service Employees (CSE) to join the team and assist in providing the best care for our residents on a daily basis. The Care Service Employees is responsible for providing assistance to residents and support to the multidisciplinary team, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents in personal care and other activities of daily living, maintaining freedom of choice, independence, privacy and dignity.
  • Assist in maintaining a hygienic and safe environment for residents, visitors and staff.
  • Demonstrate attention to the needs of the resident and family in relation to privacy, dignity and confidentiality.
  • Providing personal care and daily hygiene assistance.
  • Assisting with medication and simple wound dressings.
  • Recognise, report and respond to changes in residents’ conditions.

Requirements

  • Cert III or IV in Aged Care.
  • Experience working in Aged Care (preferred).
  • Caring manner with good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate and relate professionally to people from diverse backgrounds, values and cultures.
  • Evidence of full COVID 19 and Influenza Vaccination.
  • A current National Police Certificate (this is obtained by St Andrews).

Requirements

  • AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
  • Good care planning and documentation skills
  • Sound understanding of the Aged Care Quality Standards and systems
  • A passion for working in Aged Care and a sound understanding of the sector.
  • Contribute to ACFI/AN-ACC optimisation.
  • Good organisational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and relate to people from diverse backgrounds, values and cultures.
  • A can-do attitude and demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team.
  • Knowledge of electronic care management systems will be an advantage.
  • A current Flu Vaccination Statement.
    Evidence of full immunisation against COVID-19.
  • A current National Police Certificate (this is obtained by St Andrews).
